Hi Howie,

I'm a college student at a small university in Oregon. I feel we have the
best music department in Oregon, but most people have never heard of the
school and the rankings are almost non-existent. I create a demo project of
5 long tail keywords for the music department on January 9, 2008. Screen
shot attached for "Oregon vocal studies".

I had a glitch with tuition and financial aid and approach the school with
results of 3-5 first page rankings. They were impressed and I ended up with
a tuition scholarship in exchange for doing a some upcoming ranking projects
for the school.

After 6 weeks and no extra work to hold the rankings, I still maintain #1,
#2, #6 on google for "Oregon vocal studies".

Note: I don't want to totally dominate page 1 - only make sure that
prospective students see our school and give it due consideration.

I've been a CD member for about a week. I implemented some of the strategies I learned with a new company I've started that helps local businesses market themselves. I realize that CD caters to more of the affiliate marketing crowd, but my personal feeling is that it can be applied to any long tail marketing strategy. Hence, helping local companies dominate local searches.

I'm attaching a screen shot example of a keyword phrase that I worked on for one of my first clients. She was absolutely dumbfounded that she took up 6 of the top 10 results, and the other 4 were directories that I got her listed on. And to be perfectly honest, I only use about half of the suggestions offered in phase 1... I haven't even gotten around to some of the other techniques offered. It's pretty exciting stuff.

I'm a blogging and SEO coach also and plan on letting many of my students in on conversation domination and some of it's techniques.
